Claude Code is Anthropic’s terminal-first coding agent. Point it at a repository and it reads files, plans changes, edits code, runs tests and commits results, all through natural-language instructions rather than a chat sidebar.
It has become a favourite of experienced developers because it works where the code lives: the shell, Git and the test suite. This Claude Code review covers pricing through Claude plans and the API, the workflows it handles best and the limits to expect.
Claude Code review: pricing and best use
Claude Code is included with Claude Pro at $20 per month and the higher-usage Max plans at $100 or $200 per month. Teams can use it through Claude for Work, while API access is billed per token. Heavy agentic use burns through limits quickly, so check the current usage rules before committing.
| Tier | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Pro | $20/mo | Individual developers with moderate usage |
| Claude Max | $100–$200/mo | Daily agentic coding and large repos |
| API | Usage-based | Custom integrations and automation |
Best use cases
- Multi-file refactors — describe the change and let it trace dependencies, edit every affected file and run the tests.
- Debug loops — paste a failing test or stack trace; Claude Code reproduces, patches and re-runs until green.
- Repository onboarding — ask how a feature works and get answers grounded in the actual codebase, not generic docs.
Limitations
- Terminal comfort required — it is powerful but not a point-and-click tool; expect a learning curve.
- Usage limits — long agent sessions can exhaust plan quotas, especially on Pro.
- Review is still mandatory — treat every diff as a draft from a fast junior engineer, not an auto-merge.

Our Claude Code review verdict: one of the strongest agents for developers who are comfortable in a terminal and want real repository-level work. Pair it with Cursor for visual editing and GitHub Copilot for inline completions.
